It was 10 hour a week lab job during her first couple of years in college (which was in fact a long time ago). As I recall her main takeaway was how difficult it was to get funding for TB as compared to cancer or (at the time) AIDS. So I guess in a certain sense a foreshadowing of the issues discussed by Green.
Testing for TB is standard here (CA) if you want to work in a classroom. Or at least was when I did twenty years ago.
